I think travel is one of the most amazing things from where you can get innumerable inspirations, you observe other countries, places, the beauty, the culture, the people and it is just endless. It can be your life savoir.Īnother point from her side that I would totally agree was that whenever you do not get inspiration, you should set of and travel. I also feel that there are times I do not get inspirations or problems to work on, The journal we make can help us out with the previous problems noted down but not touched because you got something better. Its in the middle of my sleep, or when i’m travelling by bus and looking outside, something interesting just pops up and so many other times. The world is full of inspirations and yes, I actually do get an inspiration anytime of the day. Yes, I think this habit is necessary and much needed as you need to constantly observe and note down. We have been given the same job from college, to maintain a journal and I have so not taken it seriously, I have a habit of clicking pictures but I get lazy and do not note down stuff and then later I try remembering it but obviously I have forgotten. ![]() She kept stressing on having notepads and a camera with you, to constantly noting down things related or not related to your product as you might need it anytime, your brain cannot record everything and to keep taking pictures for you can get inspiration anytime. We are following the same process for our module, Design and Society. ![]() ![]() Then she started with the design process at IKEA, which is the same design process everywhere, started with analyzing a problem by meeting people, researching, making moodboards, sketching ideas, discussing the ideas with teammates, moving to 3 dimensional space, conceptualizing, mock-ups, material exploration, 3D modelling-detailed, making the final touches, and your product solution is ready. Fifth is Low Price, people will buy the product if it has all the above mentioned four characteristics but if the product is even low priced, it like a bonus point for the product too. Next is Sustainability and I believe this is the most important of all as, now a days it is our duty to use as much recyclable material as we can. Third is Quality, the quality of the product is often looked into, if its quality is bad, not many are going to buy it. Second is Function, this is an important one, as a product is a waste if it doesn’t have a good useful function. First being Form, how does the product look, is it ergonomic or not, and this the first thing a person looks into a product and I must say that all products at IKEA are perfectly formed. So there are the five dimensions, which they follow to make a product. What is the secret recipe to IKEA’s products that everyone loves. Then she spoke about something interesting which any IKEA furniture lover would want to know. She had her own studio at Stockholm before she joined IKEA Sweden. She majors in craft and art making and her favorite materials to work with are glass and ceramics. She has been determined and goal-oriented since she was young. It was very shocking that she moved out of her parents house at the age of 12 and followed her career, very less people have the courage to do that. This exclusive talk was started with her introducing about herself, what she was before she joined IKEA. So before the award ceremony Iina gave us a talk on IKEA Sweden and about herself. Iina Vuorivirta, IKEA Sweden’s youngest and newest designer was in Singapore to judge IKEA Young Designer Award 2016 in the National Design Centre.
